Washingtonia filifera. CALIFORNIA FAN PALM. Tree. Southern Yavapai County: Alkali Springs, 2000-2800 feet [JANAS-32(1)]. The apparent same location is described in more detail in Benson and Darrow: The tree "grows in three groves about alkaline and mineralized springs and seeps in the vicinity of Castle Creek in southern Yavapai County..." at 2000-2170 feet. "One of the groves includes 233 palms, another 1,158. Five trees in one grove and 42 in another were more than 16 feet tall, and one tree was 47 feet high.... About towns the seeds are carried by birds, and reproduction is common, but those near Castle Creek appear to be native." [LB:TSSWD-3].
